I am a qualified English teacher currently working at a secondary school in the West Midlands. I have been teaching English for over ten years and qualified at the University of Birmingham and have since completed my MA in Teaching Studies there.
I see tutoring as a powerful tool to boost outcomes for students.
I have been teaching in Secondary Schools for over ten years, where I have taught English Language and Literature to KS3, 4 and 5. During this time, I have experienced teaching a number of exam specifications and have marked exams for different assessors such as AQA and WJEC.
My decade of teaching has equipped me with a deep understanding of how students learn and how best to motivate them to achieve their potential.
My teaching is rooted in scientifically proven strategies that promote learning in English and can be applied to a student's revision techniques for all subjects. Sessions will focus on the knowledge of the curriculum being implemented through regular and consistent retrieval practice, modelling and live-marking.
Furthermore, sessions will also teach the student how to independently approach exam tasks and the best strategies to embed learning. The student's work is live marked to promote a deep understanding of the mark scheme.
Progress is monitored regularly through personalised trackers and progress will be communicated with parents/carers at appropriate intervals. Parents/carers can feel confident that their child is progressing and can approach me at any time with questions.
I offer revision guides and resources for pupils so that they can work through the skills learnt during our tutoring sessions and homework can be completed depending on the wishes of the parent/carer/student.
