I have worked in childcare for over 30 years and I am a primary trained teacher with over 10 years experience. I gained a BA (Hons) 2:1 in Primary Education and received my PGCE in 2014. I gained both of these from Greenwich University. I am a mother of one and a nanny to one. I also love reading and taking my dog for long walks and the occasional run.
I started my journey in the education sector in 2007 when I worked 1:1 supporting students with SEND. I left the classroom in October 2020 to become a tutor, where I could support children more effectively (rebuilding their confidence after COVID19).
I gained my TEFL certificate in early 2021 where I then taught online for the summer, for an agency.
I have now been a full time tutor in Maths and English since January 2021 and have enabled students to sit and pass entrance exams to various independent schools.
I use many resources (games, toys, computer) to build student’s confidence in their own learning and development. I take time to encourage thought processing and problem solving along with critical thinking.
Learning through play is an integral approach to my tutoring. That said, I also understand the need to ensure students are fully prepared for exams so I always ensure that tutoring is balanced and tailored to the need of the student.
I assess students both formally and informally (depending on the circumstance. Each student is unique and their learning needs to reflect this.
An added bonus is having fun whilst learning - which I believe is very important.
