My name is Hassan Izanloo, and I am an international graduate student from Cardiff University. I did both my undergraduate and master’s degrees in Pure Mathematics in Iran, before spending time in a research position and then 3 years as a lecturer (and module leader) in mathematics at Parand Islamic Azad University in Tehran. In January 2014, I successfully applied for a College of Physical Sciences and Engineering International Scholarship and came to Cardiff University, where I joined the Geometry, Algebra, Mathematical Physics and Topology Research Group (GAPT), to do my PhD under the supervision of Professor Roger Behrend. I successfully accomplished my PhD in August 2019. I joined the school of mathematics at the university of Bristol as teaching associate in statistical sciences in October 2019.
I have been teaching associate in mathematics at the university of Bristol for 4 years. In this role, my solid knowledge in both applied and pure mathematics enables me to deliver high quality teaching in probability, statistics, and other core modules such as mathematical tools for data science, introduction to proofs and group theory, further foundation mathematics, and ODEs.
Before this, during doing my PhD at Cardiff university, I was successfully active in delivering tutorials for numerous modules such as probability, statistics, calculus, and linear algebra.
Before commencing my research as PhD student at Cardiff University, I was a module leader (lecturer) in the department of mathematics at Parand Islamic Azad University in Tehran, Iran. During my work in Parand, I designed two entire course materials (both in Persian) on discrete mathematics for computer science (second year) and that on probability and statistics. The subjects I taught included probability and statistics, discrete mathematics, calculus, numerical analysis, and differential equation.
I also have extensive online teaching using the platforms such as zoom, BlueJeans, Microsoft team and WeBex.
In my view candid and successful teaching begins with the desire of sharing one’s expertise and knowledge in a creative and professional manner with others. I strongly believe that creative and successful teaching are inspiring and educational for both the lecturer and students in a mutual manner. It helps the lecturer to expand and deepen his/her knowledge in order to be present-minded and fully responsive to students’ inquiries and questions. The most effective lecturers are those who employ the class room as a place for more exploration, discoveries and targeted discussions. My approach is student-centred in such a way that reach them to their highest potential.
