I graduated top of my year with a First Class Honours M.Chem degree in Medicinal Chemistry. I took modules in the four core aspects (analytical, physical, organic and inorganic) as well as physiology, pharmacology and medicinal chemistry. I have a Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic and Natural Products Chemistry - my research covered natural-source small molecules as potential drug compounds to treat blindness caused by diabetes. I was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School for three years, undertaking research in a cell biology lab and am now back in the UK, working in London.
I am a long-term repeat tutor for KS3 science, Chemistry and Biology GCSE and A level. I also teach at University level, with first and second year undergraduate students requiring assistance in physical, analytical and organic chemistry. I have also taught spectroscopy to final year undergraduate tutees.
My approach is student-centred. I encourage and enable students to take control over their learning. Together we assess what the individual’s needs are i.e. improving analytical skills, answering questions using the correct language, memorising tables, in-depth work on particular topics and we work together on an agreed pathway. I am encouraging and supportive, enabling students to work at their own pace but with clearly defined goals.
