I am a medical student at the University of Manchester with a strong passion for teaching Maths and Science. I have been tutoring GCSE for over 2 years. I achieved all 9s in my GCSEs. I find tutoring incredibly fulfilling, especially when helping students who struggle with a topic and seeing their confidence grow over time. Watching a student go from uncertainty to mastery is one of the most rewarding aspects of teaching, and it drives me to create lessons that are engaging, effective, and tailored to each student’s needs.
During the COVID-19 lockdown, I spent two years tutoring Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 students in Maths and Science. With schools closed and lessons moved online, many students faced challenges in keeping up with their studies, which impacted their confidence and grades. I worked with students of varying abilities, from those who needed extra support to those aiming for top marks.
I focused on identifying gaps in their knowledge and adapting my teaching style to suit their learning preferences. Some students benefited from a slower, step-by-step approach, while others thrived with interactive problem-solving and real-world applications. By breaking down difficult topics into simpler concepts and reinforcing them through structured practice, I helped my students make significant progress. Many of them improved their grades, and, more importantly, they became more confident in their abilities. Seeing their growth was incredibly rewarding and solidified my passion for tutoring.
My teaching style is structured, engaging, and tailored for long-term retention. I believe in a two-step approach: first, building understanding through clear, well-structured explanations, and second, reinforcing knowledge through active practice.
Each session begins with a presentation that introduces key concepts in a clear and engaging way. This provides students with a strong foundation before they apply their knowledge. I then guide them through worked examples, breaking problems down step by step to ensure they grasp the methods involved.
Following this, I assign practice questions of increasing difficulty, allowing students to develop problem-solving skills and confidence. I also encourage active participation, regularly checking for understanding through discussions and questions. My goal is to make learning interactive, enjoyable, and effective, ensuring students don’t just memorize content but truly understand it.
By combining my past experience, structured teaching, and passion for helping others, I aim to make a real difference in my students’ learning journeys.
