A lecturer in French at UEA, I am also an experienced French and German teacher, with an in-depth knowledge of all exam boards. Friendly and flexible, I look for ways to make language learning a positive experience so that students gain in confidence and motivation. I have lived in France and Germany and speak both languages to near native level. I love languages, and hope I can pass that passion onto you!
I am currently teaching French at UEA as an associate lecturer at beginner, intermediate and undergraduate level and previously taught French and German for over twenty years from Year 7 to A Level, and Spanish for ten years to GCSE level. My results speak for themselves: every year my classes' results have been in the top 10 of all schools in the UK. Last year my A2 class achieved 100% A-C (20 pupils), and my two A/S classes 97% A-C (32 pupils). This year a private student of mine who had been predicted a D gained an A at German A Level. I am familiar with all exam boards and have been a GCSE oral examiner for Spanish for ten years as well as an expert marker for the French A Level literature paper for ten years. I have written A Level question papers for Zigzag Education as well as having several study guides in French and German published, ranging from KSE to A Level. I have a wealth of resources and ideas from beginner through to KS3, GCSE and A Level. I have been tutoring for around ten years now, and have boosted all my students grades considerably. I also tutor adults who are learning for fun, and have taken them from beginner level to proficient speakers of French or German. I also work as a freelance translator which keeps my language knowledge up-to-date.
I believe that each learner has different needs and I enjoy finding the key to unlock real understanding. I tailor my planning, activities and materials to the student's individual needs and find that this student-centred approach allows pupils' confidence and motivation to flourish. I aim to make lessons diverting and fun as everyone learns best when they are engaged and enjoying the lesson content.
