Gillian has been incredible!!!! She has helped my daughter tremendously. I was struggling to get my daughter in to one of Yorkshire’s top independent school. After failing the initial exam twice, I chose to home school my daughter, I went on a hunt to find a tutor through first tutors, I came across Gillian’s profile, I read the reviews which were excellent and made contact.
I cannot speak highly enough of Gillian. Her teaching method is unique and intricate.

Gillian is no joke, she gets the job done, she proved her credibility when my daughter applied again for the entrance exam and she passed! Time was not on my side, we had little time to get my daughter prepped for the entrance exam, she helped my daughter and worked with her, the results said it all, the proof was in the pudding when the school called to say she had passed!!!

Gillian was able to draw my daughter out of herself from the very first lesson they had together and in a very short space of time she’s gone from being downright morose at the thought of maths of any sort to actually believing she can have a go. I can't stress how significant a step this is for her- and it's thanks entirely to Gillian

If you want someone dedicated, professional, diligent, and brilliant at engaging at the student's level, then that's what you'll get with Gillian. She genuinely cares about bringing out the best in her students and encouraging them to try - she will go above and beyond to help and get the most out of the student it's a testament to her talent that she manages to do with so much excellence and kudos.
She truly is the answer to any parent who is struggling with their child. I now have her supporting my son with his A levels too.

As an adult learner who is rubbish at languages, Gillian was kind and patient at trying to enable me to get to grips with some basic Spanish for my holidays. Gillian has really helped our daughter feel more confident in her maths skills. We appreciated how friendly and approachable she was, the feedback given to us as parents and that she offered the sessions online and in 2 half hour blocks a week.

Gillian is clearly very knowledgeable and gets excellent results however we only had a 30 minute session with her. We did not feel that she was the right match for our daughter but she did give us an idea of what we needed to to work on and she was very helpful in pointing us in the right direction. We are thankful to her for giving up her time.

Gillian has tutored our 2 children (years 5 and 7) for over four months in Maths and English.

Both have showed good improvement in that period of time.

Gillian’s approach of initially getting to understand the learning method of each child and building a plan around that has helped the kids build a good rapport with her and in turn they happily take on board her teaching.

Pre pandemic we had face to face tutoring and wanted to continue in the same way, but I have been pleasantly surprised with how well the online lessons have been and can honestly say there hasn’t been a drop in learning, quite the opposite.

The weekly 1 hr lesson is now two half hour lessons a week, the kids are fully engaged for the 30 mins and generally there is flexibility (to accommodate an over running netball match!).

During the week a photo of the work completed by the kids is sent to Gillian to review and prep for the next lesson.

Due to Gillian’s considered and detailed approach and the results achieved so far we will be entrusting her with our kids tutoring well into their upper school adventure.

2021 Feedback
After taking a two year break we contacted Gillian to support our son with Maths. Gillian was offering online only and initially I was a little reluctant. However, I was proved wrong. Gillian was very flexible offering a range of platforms to teach (Zoom, Skype, Teams etc). With screenshare and video we felt no difference at all and our son was fully engaged.

We eventually found the online option absolutely vital as it worked around isolation and there was no need to move out of the house. Over time I saw an improvement with my sons Maths and confidence with the subject was definitely noticeable.

Gillian offers a very convenient service especially with the nights drawing in that my son can get the help he needs from the comfort of our own home.

Gillian doesn't limit support to scheduled slots only, at short notice she is able to quickly jump on a zoom or Skype call within hours of requesting help, enabling him to understand concepts/homework that he is struggling with.

Gillian is very knowledgeable in a number of subjects and has a great relaxed teaching style. She promps my son with questions to ensure he understands the underlying principles and spot checks on work previously done.

I cannot recommend Gillian highly enough and I would not hesitate to use her whether that be online or face-to-face.

2019 Feedback:
We have known Gillian for some time, she began tutoring my nieces 9years ago and successfully prepared them for grammar school. She has tutored my son every week over the last four years. She prepped his maths and english for a grammar school exam which he successfully passed. Gillian is very organised as she shares vocabulary and makes amazing recommendations for age appropriate books. She is also very patient and keen to make the sessions interesting and fun. The standard tutoring session doesn't work for all and this is a skill we have really been impressed with, My son has learnt through play, games and online quizzes. He loves maths so she has taught him English using mathematical quizzes. If we have missed a session she goes the extra mile to send through the work by email and mark in her own time, so its not all about what she earns she puts in over and beyond than what one would expect. Whats great is Gillian is firm and to the point, an approach that my son needs as he can get quite boystrous. Her efforts have enabled him to make great progress. I really feel Gillian has tailor-made the tutorial sessions to what suits my sons needs. She comes with a whole host of other skills too which are an added advantage, Spanish, French, German, Sewing and Baking to name a few! Gillian has been fantastic with my son. I have always supported him throughout school but I found that as he was moving on, I had a limited knowledge of the latest teaching methods and my teaching methods seemed to clash with the way that they were taught at school. Since working with Gillian, I have felt rest assured that my son is receiving the support that he needs to keep him ahead of the class. The best thing about her teaching style is that she motivates him and gets him to enjoy writing - my son isn't keen on writing. He genuinely enjoys having her over every week, she has pretty much become like a member of our extended family! I would recommend Gillian to any parent looking for an excellent English or Maths tutor.The goal was initially to get our son into a top grammar school and but once we achieved that goal we decided to continue with her as a tutor. Our son has gained admission to one of the best grammar schools in the country and we are glad that we retained Gillian's services as we believe that with her support, we can keep our child in the top sets when he moves into senior school. Gillian goes beyond the norm providing an enhanced tutoring service through providing additional resources and continual feedback. This passion and going the extra mile is what sets her apart from the average tutor. Gillian will try to show adaptability / flexibility to meet the learning style of a child where needed.

My son had a half hour session with Gillian so unable to comment in any meaningful way, other than to say my son felt it wasn't the right fit. Gillian made an effort to determine what the best path was for him and the communication was excellent. We wish her all the best.

Where do I start! Gillian has been an outstanding tutor for my daughter.

I was looking for a maths tutor for a few weeks last September 2020 for my daughter who was getting ready to take her mock GCSEs in December as she needed quiet a lot of support. I was beginning to get quiet worried at the fact that time was really tight.

Then I came across first tutors - they were amazing. As soon as I put in my preference I was directed to a few tutors who I was able to contact and have a more detailed conversation of my preference.

As soon as I contacted Gillian and explained my daughter’s situation, she very quickly reassured me and was extremely understanding.

After the first meeting with both myself and my daughter, we were totally reassured that Gillian was an extremely committed tutor and focuses on not just the academic side of her student but on a personal level too.

Gillian goes above and beyond and I don’t say that lightly. She is highly committed to her students, providing resources, websites, emails and other materials that will support her students for their specific need.

There have been many times that when lessons have been going so well she is willing to exceed the time just so her student fully grasps the lesson, she never goes by start time and end time, it’s always about her student!

Gillian always forwards on messages to myself and keeps me in the loop and if needed, copies me in to emails. At times, just to ask how I am doing too!

Before tutoring lessons with Gillian my daughter was on a 4 in maths and within a few short weeks of lessons, her final mock result showed that she was hitting a 6! This gave her the confidence she needed and I could see how much more she enjoyed learning maths and how committed she had become.

With the continued, outstanding support she is now looking at getting a 7/8 for her final exam. Her teacher couldn't praise her enough.

I could not speak highly enough of Gillian, she is patient, caring and extremely passionate.

I was so impressed that now my nephew is also being tutored by Gillian and he doing extremely well too.

I had 2 years experience with Gillian. She was really helpful as my daughters grades increased immensely for her GCSE's. I would 100% recommend.

Gillian has been tutoring my little girl for nearly a year now and the changes in her are astounding. We originally started the tutoring specific to 11+ but during the lockdown she was a god send. Since the lockdown Gillian has taken it upon herself to make sure my little girl was getting a rounded education. Along with Maths/English she has also made sure to help her with French, Geography, science, history etc. She has constantly provided encouragement and positive feedback leading to my daughter being more confident in her studies. During the lockdown she has provided numerous study aides to help with home schooling and after every remote session a detailed email outlining what they covered and what her next plans will be. We have had Gillian tutoring our daughter for approximately 6 months now in Maths and her confidence has grown immensely in this time. Gillian has been a fantastic tutor for our son for Maths. He was a reluctant student, who was in denial as to how much he was struggling with the basics of the subject. Gillian has supported Jack through an illness which for the past six months has affected his concentration. Gillian has changed times and days to accommodate doctor appointments and times when he was just too ill. Whatever the outcome is for Maths we know that Gillian has done everything she can to get our son to maximise his potential and he is now able to walk into the exams with confidence. In 2014 Gillian taught both my children aged 6 and 8 to successfully secure places at grammar schools. I had tried other tuition teachers in the past for my eldest daughter but she failed to get a place at the grammar school but Gillian very quickly turned this round.
I have continued to use Gillian for my children in particular Maths, as my eldest child struggled to keep pace with the teaching at school. I re-contacted Gillian and my eldest child's results went from average to top of the year!
Gillian is a very experienced teacher she has the knowledge to teach a number of subjects. An aspect which stands out the most is the high quality of teaching, Gillian has the ability to simplify and teach complex topics.
Gillian also has good knowledge of the syllabus in state and non-state schools which helps in keeping your child ahead of the school syllabus.
I would recommend Gillian to any parent, you will not be disappointed.

My son had no hope of passing his maths GCSE until we hired Gillian. He had a combination of idleness and mathematical hopelessness that made us despair. Gillian is a strict but fair tutor, she gradually turned his maths abilities round and he passed his GCSE first time, this was in my opinion nothing short of miraculous. Gillian, without a doubt is a life/GCSE saviour. She has now been tutoring my niece for 2 years, and has turned her around from a very behind E student to an A level maths student, having received a strong B at GCSE level. We can not recommend Gillian enough for her hard work, dedication and commitment.

We have also used Gillian to help with French to great success too.

We still use Gillian for A level work and wouldn't be surprised if we had to use her during University work too!

Gillian has been very helpful in trying to get the best from my Grandson. Her understanding of the local school teaching and examination policies has been of particular note. She has a manner which whilst appearing fairly laid back does in fact push her pupils to try harder. Also of particular note was her seemingly able to understand facets of teenage psychology and able to use this to warm herself to them.
