I have been interested in psychology since I was a teenager and as I am now retired that means I have had a lot of time to gain a very thorough grounding in it. I continue to keep up to date and am particularly interested in the developments in neuroscience.
I have a wide range of teaching experiences with many types of student including prisoners, adults, college and school pupils, I have enjoyed teaching them all.
I am a recently retired Head of psychology department in a grammar school that taught both A level psychology and the International Baccalaureate. I started teaching in 1987 and have taught GNVQ Health and Social Care as well as Open University students. I have also been an examiner for A level psychology, the International Baccalaureate paper one and for an open university child development course.
As a private tutor I have the advantage of personalising the teaching to the learners needs. so the first step is to establish what those needs are. I like to use interesting activities wherever possible to make points in a fun way and to encourage thinking and evaluation of the topics. Learning to evaluate ideas is key to gaining the top marks in psychology.
