I am a 62 year old male who has been a science teacher since 1989 and the majority of my time has been spent teaching A level Biology (>29 years) and I have also taught A level Chemistry. Health and Social Care and IB Biology (both HL and SL). I have three children and I live in Wigston, Leicestershire. I have recently retired but I am still available for tuition.

Tutoring Experience

I have been a part time A level Biology teacher and i am also an examiner for the IB Biology course. I have taught A level Biology (presently AQA) for 29 years at a large, successful sixth form college in Leicester. I also taught IB Biology for 7 years and I have been an examiner for both the Option Biology paper and the Extended Essay since 2009. I also have some teaching experience with the Biology component of the BTEC Applied Science course.

Tutoring Approach

I am interested in helping students who require understanding and knowledge of specific aspects of the course or help with developing practical and mathematical skills and how to approach application based questions. The new A Level Biology course (since 2017) has changed significantly and is now heavily dependent on interpretation, application and problem solving skills as well as greater emphasis on mathematical functions. I can help students prepare for this new structure. I have a proven track record of successfully getting students on to their chosen university courses in different subject areas and, as I have been predominantly employed in a local sixth form college, I am aware of all the new initiatives, developments. and policies currently faced by students hoping to enter higher education.

I am able to support A Level Biology students following the AQA specifications as well as IB Biology SL or HL.I can also offer support with the examination units 1 and 3 and the coursework unit 8 for first year (BTEC) Applied Biology.
