I have an eclectic career of working across educational schools, colleges and county councils which has given me a breadth of experience that enables me effectively tutor different students from different backgrounds and at their own personal level of interest and understanding. I have MSc psychology and have taught AQA psychology to 6th Form students. I teach in a very pupil-centred manner and support my students with their metacognitions, offering bespoke strategies from my background in counselling and cbt to aid learning and exam technique.
I have taught across Key Stages 1, 2, 3 and 4, and more latterly in 6th form.
I have taught primary aged children with additional needs.
I have worked as an Academic Mentor through the National Tutoring Service, set up by Central Government to support pupils post-pandemic, where I offered a bispoke learning journey for each individual.
I am adept at working from the student's base of knowledge understanding and skill set, building up learning capacity via appropriate scaffolding. I use visual imagery as well as auditory and written form as I'm aware that not everyone learns in the same way and that it is imperative to work with the student to understand and plan the 'where to next' with knowledge and skills development. I am open to feedback from my students with regard to what is working or what perhaps needs to be changed to better fit the student's needs.
