I am currently in my Second Year of study at the University of York, studying a BA in English and Related Literature. I'm looking to pass on the knowledge, skills and passion that enabled me to achieve 98% in A Level English Literature. I specialise in A-Level and GCSE, aiming to to equip students with the necessary essay writing and critical thinking skills to achieve the best possible results in their exams.
I achieved an A* (98%) in OCR A Level English Literature at Peter Symonds College in 2023, alongside an A* in Textile Design, A in History and A in my EPQ. Previously I achieved 10 GCSEs including a 9 in English Literature and 9 in English Language. Whilst in college, I took part in both the Oxbridge Scheme and the Higher Education Plus Programme, run by the University of Cambridge, which provides high achieving students with a range of lectures and supercurricular activities to prepare for higher education. I also have experience interviewing for the respective English Literature courses at the University of Cambridge and University College London, and taking the Oxbridge English Literature Admissions Test.
My teaching approach is based around developing the student's understanding of how to plan, structure and write quality essays, including critical appreciation of unseen extracts, comparison questions, thematic questions, and questions of cultural, historical and contextual influence. In addition to providing instruction and feedback on essay writing skills, I provide revision materials and the basis for effective revision methods.
I am specifically experienced in terms of the OCR English Literature A Level Course and its modules on Women in Literature Comparative and Contextual Study (The Bell Jar, Sense and Sensibility and other texts from the genre), Drama and Poetry Pre-1900 (Shakespeare's Measure for Measure, A Doll's House, Paradise Lost Books IX & X) and Literature Post-1900 (20th century novel comparison and 21st century poetry critical appreciation). If you are studying these specific or related texts/modules at A Level then my tutoring would be the best fit for you in terms of providing wider thematic knowledge and socio-historical context.
Regardless of your exam board, however, if you fill me in on the texts and themes that will come up in your modules I am happy to study the texts alongside you, to be able to provide the most well-rounded possible guidance, in terms of both skills and content.
