I have 15 years’ teaching experience at an outstanding grammar school in north Kent where I help my students gain fantastic results. I am a History specialist with plenty of experience teaching a wide range of topics for students studying at key stage levels 3, 4 and 5. I love teaching my subject and seeing my students widen their knowledge and understanding. It makes me very proud to be able to say that many of my students have gone on to study History at university after I have taught them at GCSE and A level and some have even become History teachers! I have a simple aim for my students – achieve to the best of their abilities; and I will do all I can to ensure that happens. If you were to ask my students about me, I think they would say that one of my strengths is my ability to find different ways of explaining difficult ideas.
I am the Head of History at my school. I have taught KS 3, GCSE & A Level History for fifteen years. During that time, I have been an examiner for Edexcel at A Level before leading a team of examiners and marked GCSE papers for AQA. I have attended seminars with Chief Examiners to get a really strong understanding of their interpretation of mark schemes and use this to help my students maximise their results.
I have previously been the Head of Year 11 at my school so I am very experienced in dealing with students (and parents) going through those stressful months leading up to the exams.
I now have a number of years experience as a tutor as well as my time as a classroom teacher. I adapt my tutoring to meet the needs of the student - for some it will be about strengthening knowledge retention, for others it is improving how the student expresses their ideas or improve their ability to analyse sources and interpretations. My tutoring sessions will usually combine elements from all of these areas, with a focus on what the examiners are looking for in an answer, thereby strengthening exam technique and time management in exams. All of my resources are made by me, and designed to meet the needs and learning preferences of the student.
