Hi! I'm a Durham University graduate with 10+ years of tutoring experience in English Literature, English Language and French (SATs, GCSEs & A-Levels), creative writing, Entrance Exams (11+, 13+), and Extended Project Qualifications. I teach all ages and the majority of exam boards, and I can adapt my lessons to students with special educational needs. With five offers from Russell Group universities including interviews at both Oxford and Cambridge, I also offer mentoring for personal statements and university applications.
A francophone and francophile, I was born in Paris to French-speaking parents and I lived in Toulouse during my gap year. I achieved a 2:1 (Hons) in English Literature with a 1st in my dissertation at a world-leading university which is number one for my degree subject. I also gained A*s in my A-Levels and GCSEs at St Michael's, a top London Grammar School, after passing my 11+ entrance exam and ranking in the top third of my year group.
Now, I'm a full-time tutor with almost 2000 lessons taught on MyTutor, and a freelance writer and editor. Alongside my work, I am also a fiction author of both children's and adult novels, represented by a leading UK agency.
Outside of tutoring, I love going on adventures - I have travelled to over 40 countries, trekked the Himalayas, gained a scuba diving certification, paraglided, lived in a campervan in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, and more.
I have 10+ years of tutoring experience in English Literature, English Language and French (SATs, GCSEs & A-Levels), creative writing, Entrance Exams (11+, 13+), and Extended Project Qualifications. With my in-depth knowledge of my subject and long-term tutoring experience, I can fully tailor my lessons to the needs and expectations of my students, which we will discuss in our first meeting. My passion for my subjects enables me to add a personal touch to my teaching, with anecdotes, insights, and facts to aid memory and help engagement. Although I follow the curriculum and exam board requirements, I also make sure my lessons are different to a school setting by encouraging debate, constant questions, and personalised teaching that is specific to a student's interests, strengths, and approach to learning.
A phrase that is banned in my lessons: "I don't know". I encourage independent and out-the-box thinking so that, even if my student doesn't know the exact answer, they can work their way through the issue using their current knowledge and skills. This is vital for success in school, exams, and in later life.
While I focus on content, I also emphasise the importance of essay writing skills and exam techniques. Finally, I don't believe in a 'one size fits all' approach to teaching which is often applied in the classroom. Every student has a different way of thinking and learning, and I adapt my lessons to them, which is why I've seen a 100% exam success rate.
No task is too challenging, so contact me with any tutoring request. I look forward to meeting you!
