I am an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher with over 18 years experience in a primary school. I have been tutoring for the last 9 years. I have an Honours degree and am passionate about teaching children and helping them to achieve their full potential.
I enjoy walks in the surrounding countryside, cooking, reading and gardening.
Prior to becoming a tutor, I was a Key Stage Leader, class teacher and a member of the Senior Management and Leadership team of a good primary school. I have valuable experience of working with children with SEN, including autism and children with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties.
I was also a mentor for students on teacher training, preparing them to become excellent teachers through guidance and support.
As part of my further development, I attended a training day in ‘Teaching Literacy in Year 2’ at the University of Oxford and then took part in delivering their 10 week Literacy programme as part of their research.
I individually personalise each lesson, using the child's own interests and hobbies to motivate and capture their interest in learning and also give pupils informative feedback, so they recognise their achievements and know the next steps on their learning journey. I believe children learn best if they feel comfortable, respected and supported. It is important that children are confident to challenge themselves and learn through their mistakes. I believe strong relationships with parents and carers are vital because education comes through a partnership between home, school and tutor. Currently, all of my lessons are online, but I can offer face to face with the Fleet area.
