Private English Tutor in Grangemouth

I am a GTCS registered Primary teacher based in Central Scotland, with a genuine passion for supporting children who face challenges with literacy and learning. I am a mum of two, and my son has Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and ADHD, so I have a personal understanding of the day-to-day realities that come with Additional Support Needs from navigating school systems to supporting emotional wellbeing and building confidence.

Professionally, I hold a Master’s degree in Education (Additional Support Needs) and have recently completed a Professional Recognition Enquiry in Dyslexia through the General Teaching Council for Scotland, in partnership with Dyslexia Scotland. I currently work part time in a local primary school, providing targeted support for children who need extra help with reading, writing, spelling, and phonics.

My approach is always inclusive, flexible, and nurturing with the goal of meeting each child where they are and helping them take their next confident step forward.

Tutoring Experience

I have over 20 years of teaching experience, including 11 years specialising in Support for Learning. Throughout my career, I’ve worked with children across the primary age range, supporting a wide variety of learning profiles, including those with dyslexia, speech and language needs, difficulties with spelling, reading comprehension, and writing confidence.

I have worked closely with families, class teachers, and support staff to create individualised literacy interventions that are practical, manageable, and rooted in real classroom practice. I also have experience in supporting learners who use digital tools such as Nessy, and in developing strategies that promote both independence and self-belief.

Tutoring Approach

My teaching is grounded in the values of Scotland’s Curriculum for Excellence, with a strong emphasis on inclusion, personalised learning, and building confidence in every child.

I offer flexible literacy support that can be delivered through a combination of:
Email-based tasks and feedback
Printable and digital resources
Shared documents (e.g. Google Docs)
Optional online check-ins
Parent guidance for supporting learning at home

I use a variety of evidence-based strategies, including:
Structured phonics and spelling techniques
Multi-sensory and dyslexia-friendly approaches
Scaffolding and modelling in writing
Gentle encouragement and strength-based feedback

Whether your child needs support with spelling, reading, phonics, or writing, I provide a calm, consistent, and personalised approach helping them grow in confidence and reach their full potential.
