Statistics PhD student at Imperial College London and the University of Oxford, offering tutoring in statistics/mathematics at all levels. Previously graduated from Imperial College London with a master's degree in Statistics and from the University of Bath with a bachelor's degree in Mathematics.
I have been tutoring part-time for the last 8 years. I started tutoring AS students in mathematics whilst I was an A2 student at my school. I ran tutorial classes on Monday afternoons where students would come and ask questions. This experience made me realise that I really enjoy teaching mathematics. When I started university, I began tutoring A-Level, IB and GCSE mathematics students. I did this privately, as well as through a tutoring company. I'm currently a graduate teaching assistant for a second-year BSc Mathematics module at Imperial College London.
Previously, I have also taken part in mathematical outreach with the Mathematics department at the University of Bath. I visited local schools and gave engaging lectures on mathematical topics. I was heavily inspired by my mathematics at school and this has motivated me to inspire other students. As a result, I also mentor young students through the social enterprise GT Scholars and the UK Mathematics Trust.
I understand that learning can be a difficult and frustrating process. Therefore, I teach by using positive reinforcement. I support students in the learning process and try not to intimate them but instead build up their confidence. I ensure that the student is engaged with the Mathematical content so that it will spark an independent interest in Mathematics. I prepare content and questions on topics before the lesson so that the lesson has a structure and is as productive as possible. I make sure to leave time for the student to discuss any topics which they find difficult so that we can cover them.
I use an iPad to ensure that the quality of my online lessons rivals that of a face-to-face lesson. This allows me to clearly write mathematical notation during online lessons.
