I am a 1st year student studying Mathematics at UCL and have participated in many maths competitions over the past decade including the British Maths Olympiad. In most of these competitions I achieved the top prizes for my performance in them in placing in the top percentiles of participants.
I have formally tutored 2 students in A Level maths online while I was at university and have informally tutored many of my friends and other students while I was still attending secondary school, many of which got top grades in their respective GCSE or A Levels.
I believe the best way to learn maths is through doing practice problems and going through example questions, so my approach towards teaching maths is to first go through the content and help the student develop an intuition and understanding of the theory and then work through a few examples to see the theory applied to a problem, and then have the student try some problems and guide them if or when they get stuck and to nudge them towards finding the solution on their own so that they can have a go for themselves using the new theory I've taught them.
