I am a proud nerd who loves to learn and I try to instil the same level of excitement and enthusiasm about learning in my tutees! I love working with young people and building their confidence in their studies through lessons that are tailor-made to each individual student’s needs. I use a range of different sources to produce personalised learning resources for each student which are shared after each lesson to help consolidate what we have covered together in our classes. I keep regular correspondence with parents so that everyone is kept in the loop about the student’s progress during our tutoring journey.
I have been a teacher/tutor for 15 years, deciding recently to leave the classroom and become a full-time tutor. I have taught both Biology and Psychology and worked at independent schools in London (where I was Head of Year 10/11), Beijing (Head of Biology and Psychology IBDP) and, most recently, Bangkok (Head of Psychology). Across those roles I have taught GCSE, A-level and IBDP Biology and Psychology.
Last year I had five regular students who showed fantastic improvements in their grades across their tutoring journey:
- student 1: from E at AS to B at A-level
- student 2: from C at AS to B at A-level
- student 3: from E at AS to A at A-level
- student 4: from D at AS to B at A-level
- GCSE student: B in Higher Level Biology (from E in mock exams)
I like to start off by getting to know my tutee's 'red, amber, green' areas - what are they really struggling with, what are they ok with and what do they need little additional support on. Following this, I will structure the sessions to review the knowledge and understanding of a particular red/amber topic using a range of teaching and learning techniques, then move on to application in exam questions to strengthen exam technique. This approach has been very successful in the past and students universally find it helpful and structured.
As well as individual tutoring sessions, I am able to do small group sessions of up to 3 students for a reduced individual cost (please contact me to discuss).
