Hi! My name is Emma and I am Swiss and British. I have studied in the UK since I was 9 years old and I took GCSEs and the International Baccalaureate. I am currently a student at the London School of Economics and Political science, where I study a Bsc in Psychological and Behavioural Science. I am very passionate about all of the subjects I have taken up to these levels, and would love to share my interest of them to others. I truly believe that with the right explanations and the right exercises, anyone can master any subject in time!
I have done a lot of work with children in the past. Last summer, I worked as an activity leader with children from the age of 11 to 17 for 4 weeks, which really allowed me to connect with them. I have also been coaching tennis for 3 years now, and this includes children all the way down to 3 years old, as well as physically disabled children. I have therefore had experience with all different types of children and the challenges I have faced working with them has meant I am now very used to talking to younger children and keeping them entertained.
Ever since a young age, I have also helped my brother with academic tasks such as doing his homework or writing essays for school. He has dyspraxia, meaning I am also used to finding ways to go round the normal explanations teachers in class usually use and finding different, more creative ways of explaining concepts, as I have found that facilitates learning and memorisation for students with learning disabilities.
As a patient individual, I am happy to re explain concepts to students over and over until they fully understand it. However, I think one of the most effective teaching approaches is to always let students have a go and are mistakes, so that they are able to learn from those mistakes and this can help them understand complicated concepts. I further believe that it it’s important that students do- it will not be helpful for them if they just listen to me talk for an hour, so I like to teach using worksheets to guide us through the lesson or a named task.
