Hello! My name is Emily, I am 34 years old, and have been teaching languages since I was 18, so for a long time now! I love language learning and will happily coach anyone at any level in French, Spanish or English (as a foreign language).
I live in Altafulla, Spain, having moved recently from the UK. I charge £35/hr for a one-to-one lesson on Zoom. All materials are included in the price.
I have lived and studied in Spain, France, and Latin America, have a 1st class degree in French, and have an English language teaching diploma (DELTA and CELTA qualified).
I am particularly experienced in working with teenagers, offering extra exam preparation for GCSEs, AS and A levels in French and Spanish, with plenty of conversation practice for the oral exams. If you think some intensive preparation would give you that extra help you need, please get in touch.
I have had students go from a D to an A* within a few months, and find that with just an hour a week of support, my students’ grades can significantly improve.
I have taught all kinds of students, from pre-school children to business people.
Latin America (2004 and 2011) - Teaching in Ecuador and Mexico, 5-18 year olds
France (2005-2008) - Teaching in Paris, children and adults, private classes
Spain (2008-2009) - Teaching in Barcelona, in-company business classes, summer schools for 5 year olds, almost all ages and levels at some point!
UK (2010-2020) - Private classes supporting GCSE and A level students in French and Spanish in Brighton. I also worked at at a local language school (ELC) teaching English to foreigners. I spent my summers at Sussex University teaching Japanese students. I am also a qualified Trinity examiner.
So as you can see I've taught in various places and to many different levels and ages - I love my job and can't imagine doing anything else!
Learning any language should be creative, enjoyable and fun. My main focus is to support my students so they feel confident and happy expressing themselves in a new language.
Every programme is different - it depends if you are intensively preparing for an exam, or just practising for your next holiday - so content will be dictated by you.
I use a wide range of resources and activities - poster making, board games, relaxed conversation, grammar drills, debating... - each lesson should give you a chance to understand an aspect of language better and then practise it with me.
I am infinitely positive and motivating, it doesn't matter what level you are, I just want you to enjoy it and feel you are making progress!
For GCSE and A level students (French and Spanish) I feel I can help you because I have done those exams myself and I can still remember the stress of it all - sometimes a bit of extra support is all you need to get the grade you want.
I am confident in my skills as a teacher and confident that I can make things fun for everyone!
