I came to teaching through my passion for helping others and had often found this within one teaching capacity or another. I also have the love of literature and so it was my natural subject to wish to pass on.
Since becoming a teacher I love nothing better than seeing students blossom into an understanding they previously didn't possess. Getting to know students and watching their confidence grow and grow is the best job-satisfaction I could hope for.
My career in teaching began professionally when I completed my PGCE back in 2017. Since then I have been a classroom teacher for KS3 and GCSE of top set, high ability students, nurture groups with high SEN needs, and all abilities in between. I began private tutoring after having my first child and taking a maternity break from teaching full time. At this point I also began marking GCSE English exams every summer. I have found this to be a rich learning experience for myself, ensuring I can be confidant in what I am teaching and what exactly my students need to do in order to progress and succeed.
In our first session we will discuss the main areas you want to improve on. Don't worry if you're not sure, I have plenty of experience teaching students who aren't sure what to do either, so I will have plenty of ideas to help me get a feel for what we should begin working on.
Subsequent sessions usually start with a little vocabulary building, There's always room for discussing what you are reading or otherwise consuming - be it film or socials, because these also play a part in understanding literature. Sometimes there will be writing and sometimes not so much. You can decide if when you do do writing, you do it in your own time for us to then work through and improve together, or we keep it all with the lesson - it's your choice!
Each lesson it planned individually for you. This means there is plenty of flexibility, especially if there's suddenly a homework you are worrying about, and exam you wish to be more prepared for or you didn't understand a lesson in school today and want to go back over the topic. I love English, and am always happy to flax through different topics.
