I graduated with a 2:i (with Honours) Masters in Mathematical Sciences from the University of Birmingham in 2009. Following a career break, I completed my PhD in Pure Mathematics at Birkbeck, University of London in 2015. Since then I have been a Guest Teacher at the London School of Economics and Political Science where I teach several first and second-year undergraduate courses in Algebra, Analysis and Economics.
I have been teaching mathematics professionally for 5 years and as a private tutor for 7. I have experience teaching students for A-level, IB and in undergraduate modules in algebra and analysis. I am currently working towards a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education and membership of Advance HE. I have also participated in outreach programs in aid of the SAMI (Supporting African Maths Initiatives).
My focus is on establishing a rapport with the student and maintaining patience as a tutor. My emphasis is never on what the student has done wrong, only on ways that the student can improve. From having had many many years of my own personal mathematics education, I am fundamentally aware that mathematics can be difficulct, but is never out of reach. My goal is to bring the mathematics within the student's reach by using my experience to express it in a way that the student can understand it. My approach is to begin by understanding how the student approaches the material, in particular, in answering exercises and exam questions, and then go from there.
