Hello! I'm Ella, a third-year university student studying a MSci in Chemistry at the University of Bristol. I am currently in the third year of my masters degree and I wish to specialise in biological and computational chemistry when I complete my final-year masters project next year.
I began tutoring during my time as Chemistry Prefect at my sixth form. Every week in my free time, I volunteered to tutor groups of 5 GCSE students aged 15-16 in Biology and Chemistry GCSE. This involved tailoring personalised resources for each student to ensure they understood basic concepts, and then I would move onto mock exam questions.
Recently, I volunteered to give a mock chemistry Oxbridge interview at my former sixth form as I went through the process myself as a Biochemistry applicant. This reignited my enjoyment of tutoring and made me remember how rewarding the process can be, which has led to me now taking up tutoring again.
For studying STEM subjects, I believe there are two key aspects to success in exams: fully understanding the basic concepts, and then practice and application of your knowledge. My teaching style first involves targeting the areas where the student is unsure of the content and tailoring resources accordingly to ensure they grasp the basics. After they are confident with the concepts and information, we will move onto practice questions in the style of the GCSE/A-level exam papers.
