Tutoring Experience

Since my PGCE at Cambridge University, I have enjoyed many years building on this foundation, cultivating my knowledge and skills as a teacher and leader, first in a state primary school in Cambridge and subsequently within the private sector in Kensington, Richmond and Buckinghamshire. I have considerable experience of teaching throughout Key Stage 2, most extensively in Years 4, 5 and 6. I've headed a range of departments but primarily, English. My strong academic background, personal qualities and skills each play a vital role in the high quality service I provide.

I have a wealth of knowledge and experience in successfully preparing children for 11+ tests and entrance exams, up to scholarship level, to many of the country's leading schools such as St Paul's Girls, North London Collegiate and Wycombe Abbey. My knowledge of the Key Stage 2 curriculum and requirements of the 11+, entrance exams and SATs is extensive.

As Head of Gifted and Talented, I have focused on ensuring that the most able are thriving and challenged. I also have significant experience in tutoring those with a range of Special Educational Needs and adapt my approach accordingly to ensure success. Regardless of ability, children make excellent progress (one child recently moved from bottom to top set in Maths within the space of a year under my tuition).

Tutoring Approach

As a teacher, I am organised, knowledgeable, positive and importantly, I genuinely care. I aim to quickly develop a rapport with children of all abilities and understand their needs, ensuring that progress is rapid and effective. I am passionate about delivering personalised, thorough and engaging tuition that supports, challenges and motivates, in a friendly environment where pupils feel at ease. Consequently, I expect the highest levels of achievement within the capabilities of each child.

Lessons are carefully planned and structured, with clear goals and encompass a wide range of techniques, activities and high quality resources. I take time to identify any gaps in understanding and work systematically with your child to consolidate knowledge and improve skills. Concepts are broken up and explained clearly and at a pace appropriate to the individual. Frequent repetition and reinforcement further help to embed learning and skills.

I am passionate about education and dedicated to making my tuition a positive and successful experience for every child. I take personal responsibility for the progress of my tutees and genuinely thrive on their successes!

Ultimately, every pupil has the potential to flourish and my role is to help them unlock that potential. If you're looking for a professional tutor who is approachable, accomplished and drawing on a wealth of knowledge and experience, I would be delighted to discuss further how I might help.
