I have worked as an undergraduate tutor in Shakespeare, early modern literature, and theatre studies at the universities of St Andrews and Durham. I have also supervised undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations there. I have experience in tutoring A-Level and IB students in English, as well as study skills and IB Extended Essay.
My teaching approach is tailored to each student. Through a first session, I will assess the student's strengths as well as areas in which to improve. This is valid in terms of academic notions, but also their study methods and how they usually manage time and workload and how their study affects their mental health. From this type of holistic assessment I can proceed in drafting with the student and their parents a plan of action - what skills they want to improve, or what results they'd like to achieve and in what timeline.
