I am a motivated, committed and hard-working teacher who has worked with children and young people in a number of capacities, both as a classroom teacher and as an outreach tutor; therefore my skills and abilities are multifaceted and I have a real commitment to inclusive practice, diversity and equality.
My many experiences have allowed me to witness and practice in a multitude of scenarios that have given me the ability to fine tune my own positive ethos towards this.
I have experience of teaching Functional Skills, GCSE and A level English, in my early years I utilised interactive drama techniques to engage children, as the company I worked for toured the south-west performing theatre for pupils with special educational needs; which I found to be a very positive and rewarding experience. I have worked in a secure training environment and previous to that a young offender's institution where I worked with young men who had a variety of complex learning difficulties and associated emotional, behavioural and social needs. I have also worked with young people who have been placed into care and have suffered trauma or had attachment disorders. I worked as a Sub-Warden at university as well as tutoring young teenagers in drama training. I have taught drama in various capacities, producing and directing plays and sketches at university as well as aiding youths in prison to write and perform play-scripts.
My greatest strength is my ability to make the subject come to life through interaction, intertextuality, transmedia, roleplay and immersion in the themes. if that is what the learner wants. My approach is proactive and I always make myself available to the learner. I am thorough and diligent in communicating with parents. My ability to independently identify and research as I move through my teaching practices is also paramount in my approach to the profession.
I will never be inaccessible and am always there when the students need me to be. One of the key words that I try to communicate to the young people is empathy and I would hope that I am a true advocate of this idea.
