I am a highly experienced teacher of over 30 years who has always been motivated and passionate about education as I watch children flourish and grow in confidence. I have written policies and schemes of work regarding the teaching of English, specifically the teaching of writing, reading and handwriting. I have also trained staff in the many new initiatives in English. I have been the lead teacher of English in several schools throughout my career and sat on many Senior Leadership Teams, in both the state and independent sectors. I am married with two children who have very different styles of learning.
As well as teaching in schools throughout the academic year, I have also enjoyed tutoring children during term time and the various school holidays in English and Mathematics. I have planned and delivered 'catch up' and reinforcement lessons to support pupils learning in school as well as boost their confidence in what they can achieve. I have also worked with pupils' schools as a way of actively supporting their work in the classroom. I have developed numerous strategies and schemes over the years to encourage pupils to reach and exceed their potential. I have been tutoring for over 25 years with much success in improving the outcome of exam results in SATS (Maths/English), COMMON ENTRANCE EXAMS (English), 11 PLUS (English) and 13 PLUS (English). I have significant experience of working with pupils of all abilities including children with Special Educational Needs.
I am a patient, kind and understanding tutor with a child-centred approach to teaching. I believe in spending time getting to know individual students so that I can create a bespoke service to ensure their improvement and success. I have high expectations for all the children I work with and seek always to motivate with my experience and deep enjoyment of learning.
