I am based near Durham in the North East of England and can tutor in person or via zoom. I became interested in foreign languages as a child and am still enthusiastic about them today. I did a degree in Applied Languages in Liverpool and spent 6 months in Aix-en Provence in France and 6 months in Stuttgart in Germany. I studied elementary Russian as well as French and German, and am currently learning Italian.
I have been teaching French and German since 1976, in various schools across the North East. I have taught classes from Y7 to A level and was Head of Department for 12 years. I retired from full-time teaching in 2016 and since then, have done some supply work and had a number of private pupils. I specialise in helping students at GCSE and A level to improve their grades.
I always tailor my teaching to the individual student, as some need help with speaking, others with listening, reading or writing. Some just need to build their confidence and I try to be patient, friendly and sympathetic when students experience problems. A very common problem is the jump from GCSE to A level and I have helped several students to cope with this change.
