I have been a teacher for 12 years but worked in education for the past 22. I have a degree in primary education and have worked with children of all age ranges across key stage 1 and 2.
I have been happily married for 40 years and have two grown up children who have now left home.
When I have some spare time, I enjoy craft activities, knitting and reading. My favourite Sunday afternoon treat would be a walk along the sea front - very relaxing.
I have worked in the education system for over 20 years. Initially, I was a teaching assistant working with children from all backgrounds and abilities, at a local primary school. I undertook an NVQ and then an Open University course to support my work. It was then I decided that I would like to become a teacher! I was lucky enough to be offered a place on a part time degree and teacher training course, allowing me to continue working and train to teach at the same time. I qualified 4 years later and was offered a teaching position in the school I had worked as a TA in. I have worked across all year groups. I no longer teach in the school setting and now concentrate on tutoring.
Initially, it is important to get to know the student so that lessons can be based around their own interests whilst achieving a learning objective. A tutor/student relationship needs to built on mutual respect and so building upon that is vital to ensure full potential is realised.
My sessions are split into a variety of activities, to ensure enthusiasm and motivation is sustained but most of all to make it enjoyable! I am flexible and tailor my lessons to the needs and abilities of the pupil. After each lesson, I send feedback to the parent and an overview of the next lesson. I feel communication is a key element of tutoring with both pupil and parent being included. I only offer online lessons via Zoom.
