I was a Bank Manager for 20 years then made the decision to move to education. Since then I have been working for a teaching agency being placed with secondary school pupils on a one to one basis. I have also been a School Governor which has helped me to keep current with the school curriculum.
One to one teaching at KS2 and GCSE level. Voluntary work with KS2 pupils in a Primary school for 6 months. Online Maths tutoring since March 2020
As a bank manager I had extensive training on coaching and training techniques and put this into practise on a daily basis both in my previous role and now with teaching.
For the past two years I have been partnered with a local secondary school as part of the National Tutoring Programme and have received excellent feedback. I was recommended by one of the staff to tutor a friend who required a Maths qualificaion to move on in her role. Together we achieved this in just a few months.
I like to establish the pupils preferred learning style so as to adapt my teaching accordingly. For younger students I use educational games to help with engagement. Each session always starts with a recap of the previous one to check understanding. It is important that lessons are engaging and as enjoyable as possible to help with learning.
