I am a family man who has been teaching for a long time and I found that it is something I am quite good at. I am generally a positive person who believes that most people can achieve a lot as long as they receive the right support and guidance and are prepared to put the effort in.
I have been teaching maths for 17 years in a variety of schools, including both inner city and rural. Within my career I have also held positions up to Head of Mathematics and Head of Year. This means that not only do I understand the Mathematics curriculum but I also have a good understanding of how children think and hence I am very good at getting a pupil to understand. This has obvious benefits for their learning.
Firstly, listen to the pupil to establish how they learn and what they do, and don't, understand. Then use one of the numerous strategies I have developed over the years to get them to reach their potential.
In addition I am a very patient person when it comes to explaining something and my knowledge of Maths is strong enough so that I can explain most topics in a variety of ways.
Finally, I always try to be honest so that everyone knows where they are and what is required for them to improve.
