I am an experienced teacher of English language and literature with a First Class Honours degree, and live near Hertford. I am available to help school and college students, and adult learners, to improve their written English and comprehension skills.
I have taught in a number of further education colleges in London and Hertfordshire, and at the University of East London. I now work independently, offering English language and literature support for A level and undergraduate students, and general support for adult learners. Aside from tuition, my writing consultancy, King's English, provides copy editing services for businesses and private clients.
One of my aims is to help students improve their writing ability by understanding how good writing is structured, so that they may avoid the grammatical and stylistic faults which so often hold exam grades down. This includes encouraging and helping students to read attentively and perceptively, and to broaden their vocabulary and powers of expression.
In literature I specialise in poetry, a difficult area of the curriculum for many. I studied for my degree as a mature student, having previously worked as a bookbinder and then in community arts, and so am particularly aware of the concerns of adults returning to education.
