I am a Doctor of Philosophy student in Physics at the University of Oxford. My research focuses on studying the surfaces of planetary bodies in the solar system, using various instruments and techniques to gather data and insights about their composition, formation, and evolution. I hold a First Class Masters degree in Physics and Space Science and Engineering from University College London.
In addition to my academic pursuits, I have years of experience working with students of all levels, helping them build their confidence and skills in various subjects. I approach teaching with a methodical and engaging style, emphasizing curiosity and enjoyment of the subject matter.
Outside of academia, I am a passionate runner, having ran at club and county levels in the past and currently doing so for my University team.
Education:
University of Oxford - DPhil in Planetary Science (in progress)
University College London - First Class Masters in Physics and Space Science and Engineering (2021)
European Space Agency - CubeSat Summer School

GCSEs - 9A*s (Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English Literature, English Language, Geography, History, P.E.)
Over the past decade, I have provided consistent weekly tutoring to students, helping them reach and surpass their academic targets. One grateful parent, Sarah B, recently expressed her appreciation for my work, stating, "I just wanted to say a big thank you for helping Jamie to achieve an A in his maths. He's been through a tough few years and has always struggled academically (especially when applying himself to work) but you made him believe in himself and enjoy learning without being steamrollered or controlled. Also, I think you helped him to believe in himself which has had a knock-on effect on other subjects. He also did very well in English which is amazing!" Sarah's testimonial is a testament to the impact that consistent tutoring can have on a student's academic performance.
Another parent, Samantha C, praised my work as an enthusiastic and inspiring tutor for their son, who was preparing for the 11+. Samantha's testimonial reads, "David is an enthusiastic and inspiring tutor for our son who has been preparing for the 11+. My son really looks forward to the lessons and comes back reassured about areas he was unclear on and enthusiastic about the discussions he has had. David provides constructive feedback and follow-up emails suggesting online tutorial sites that shore up the topics covered." Samantha's words highlight the importance of engaging and personalized tutoring in keeping students motivated and interested in learning.
I also received positive feedback from Merriam J, who appreciated my friendly yet professional approach while tutoring her child in Physics for GCSEs. Merriam's testimonial states, "David was friendly yet professional and helped my son a great deal with his physics revision. I would definitely recommend David" Merriam's endorsement underscores the significance of creating a comfortable and positive learning environment to help students thrive academically.
I firmly believe that the ability to explain complex concepts in a simple way is a sign of true understanding. Hence, I strive to break down difficult concepts into digestible parts, using examples and real-world applications to make them more relatable and understandable for my students.
I follow up all lessons with comprehensive class notes, questions and solutions, as well as an online class tracker to help students organise their learning. With my patient and caring approach, coupled with my passion for the subject, I'm confident that I can help achieve your child's learning goals!
