My name is Darius and I am 23 years old. I am currently a postgraduate student studying Psychology at UCL, having graduated from Oxford last year with the top mark in my year. I am deeply interested in a range of academic subjects ranging from philosophy to maths and everything in between. I speak 4 languages and have been a UK chess champion in my younger years! I also try to stay extremely active - I do jiu jitsu, football, and weightlifting among other sports. I have set up my own book club (and I attend another), a fashion brand, and many events hosting as many as 2000 people. I am highly organised and punctual. At the same time I try to cultivate a fun and interactive work environment where play is balanced out with focus and discipline.
I am currently preparing three children for the 11+ exams, both for this year and the next. I have also successfully tutored students in the past in their applications for Modern Languages at Oxford and Linguistics at Cambridge. I have tutored several children in a range of subjects at Common Entrance, as well as 7+. I have also taught English as a foreign language to over 280 students in northern Italy as part of my year abroad, with ages ranging from 4-16. Finally I have given art lectures as an employee at the Peggy Guggenheim Foundation in Venice.
In my experience, tutoring cannot be all jovial play, nor can it all be stringency. I try to cultivate an interactive, enjoyable and relaxed work environment where students learn to develop autonomy and the confidence to tackle problems which they previously perceived to be challenging. Indeed, as much as I teach techniques, strategies and propositional knowledge, I also try and instil in my students a sense of self-esteem so that they can excel beyond their expectations. I report back to the parents every week, set homework which I then mark, and try to accommodate flexibly to the particular requirements of each individual client.
