Hello!! And welcome!! I’m Dan and it would be my honour to tutor you in geography since I really love the subject and believe it is the most important subject in today’s modern world because it covers solutions to climate change and the inequalities that divide us as a species.
I’ve travelled to over 30 different countries so my geography lessons come with amusing stories and anecdotes that bring geography to life.
I have taught all ages and abilities over the years, and through my student-centred, responsive and reflective approach, all of my students make progress and achieve their potential regardless of any barriers to learning.
I have a funny but firm approach that allows my students to enjoy learning whilst developing a strong work ethic that will lead to success on their final exams.
I have been a teacher for 20 years, teaching in both secondary schools and FE colleges in the UK and abroad. I also have lots of experience tutoring in-house and online. I love tutoring to small groups as you can really get to know the person behind the student.
I do teach towards the exams but I don’t like to think of myself as an exam factory. Over my career in teaching geography I have a 100% pass rate with 37.5% achieving high grades (A*-B). Since I have done marking for exam boards, I know precisely what they’re looking for.
Tutoring to small groups allows me to tailor my lessons to focus on the specific needs of my individual students so that they all may achieve their potential.
My lessons are fully interactive so be ready for lots of questioning on maps, diagrams and processes that will stretch your learning and develop your critical thinking skills.
Each lesson is divided into starter activities that recap prior knowledge or introduce the main focus of the lesson. A plenary activity will bring all of the learning together at the close of the lesson.
Currently I am most familiar with the AQA syllabus but I do have experience in teaching the Edexcel and WJEC specifications.
I have extensive understanding of the NEA coursework element and have been marking them for years. I guide my students on every aspect of their chosen fieldwork investigation so that they are confident when they collect their data and write up their final report.
