I am a committed educator with a passion for teaching English Language and Literature to 11+, GCSE and A Level standard. I am also qualified to teach Key Skills (English, Communication). I have worked for thirty years in the FE sector in south-east London. I have a history of making excellent relationships with students.

My outside interests include cinema, music, journalism and government and politics.

Tutoring Experience

Online English Language and Literature tutoring.
I have taught primary (11+) and GCSE English and Literature to members of the Sri Lankan community, finding students by word-of-mouth recommendations.

Full-time English lecturer, leading the GCSE English team; English teaching on Access courses; also teaching Key Skills Communication, A Level English and A Level Film Studies.

Tutoring Approach

I am student-centred. I teach through setting tasks tailored to specific syllabi, giving detailed weekly feedback relating to content, and spelling, punctuation and grammar. I encourage critical thinking, with a focus on study skills. I offer a range of resources developed over many years of professional practice. For second language students, I think discussion, as well as written tasks, is important to improve language skills.
