Hello! I have been enthusiastic about science for as long as I can remember. I am passionate about my subject, bring a lot of relevant experience to my students and hope that I am making a difference to them. I also am an examiner and moderator for three of the main exam boards and have found this experience invaluable in helping students better understand the requirements of what is expected of them in exams.
I have been teaching Science at secondary schools for over 20 years. For 7 years of that time I was a Head of Science (before moving on to other leadership roles in schools.) I have also ran local networks for Heads of Science to get together and discuss relevant issues of the day. I really enjoy science and regularly run science trips, competitions and enrichment clubs after school.
I usually meet with the students/parents in the first instance to get basic information such as which syllabus the student is studying, where they are in the course, what their current working level would be, what their target grades are and what they would like to achieve, and finally (and probably most importantly!) what they are struggling with. I usually will then tailor a series of lessons around working on the areas of difficulties and then the general syllabus. I would usually provide regular feedback to parents on how students are doing with the work and the progress that they are making.
