I have recently graduated from Goldsmiths University with a first class honours degree (Bsc) in an intergrated computer science and music degree. I have worked (and am working currently) on music projects with other students and graduates and am enjoying the team work aspect as well as the learning aspect in terms of skills' sharing.
I attended medical school for a year but felt this was not my vocation. I changed to a music and programming course which I loved. Alongside my work and studies I have always been tutoring.
Teaching is important to me because I believe it is both the child's future and the future of our own society. I believe we need highly skilled, confident young people going out in to the world.
I have been tutoring for over 7 years and since the age of 16 I worked as a volunteer in a local school, working with children who were working towards their SATS and 11+ as my mother was a teacher and asked me for help. Post A Level and throughout my academic and working career, I have been working as a freelance private maths tutor. I love this as I find it both engaging and rewarding. I have experience tutoring GCSE and A level in maths and science, and the students seem to get on well with me and make very good progress.
My style is to encourage and instil confidence: I believe that maths is a subject that children love when they lose their fear and anxiety and start to see links and patterns in their learning. To instil this self-belief, I feel it is necessary to give them appropriate challenge that is both achievable and supported. I also make sure to actively engage the students with activities and questions throughout the lesson. I like to keep an active and positive approach to my lessons.
