Tutoring Experience

I have taught in Outstanding primary and secondary schools in London prior to relocating to Gloucestershire and making the move to full time private tutoring. I find that tutoring provides the best form of education due to its bespoke and focused nature. This background gives me a unique perspective on the learning journey of students as I am able to identify and rectify gaps in learning that may have existed for years.

I have success in taking GCSE and A level students from a C grade to an A, with a particular strength in coursework preparation and reading lists. As an award winning poet, I have a particular passion for poetry and enjoy passing this on to my students. This is often as area of weakness at GCSE, so I have honed my skills in teaching poetry analysis to both young and old students alike.

Having studied at Cambridge for my bachelor's and master's in History, I have a strong grounding in Oxbridge applications and college selection. I have also prepared students for entry to LSE, Imperial, King's and Edinburgh. Following this experience, I have expanded my teaching to offer guidance for undergraduates who need assistance refining their essay writing skills as there is a gap between the expectations of A level and those of an undergraduate, which some students struggle to cross on their own.

Tutoring Approach

Learning ought to be memorable so I make links between subject matter and current affairs and the interests of my students. History in particular can be a dry subject, so my approach follows that of the schema theory of education and has proved to be very beneficial for my students! I ensure that lessons are unique to each student and as fun as possible whilst being rigorous and targeted at improving education outcomes.
