With a family now grown up and after over 15 years teaching experience I decided a career change into tutoring and consultancy would bring a life style balance between teaching a subject that I am passionate about and been able to see my grandkids!.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to support my tutees and my extensive experience in secondary schools enables me to be flexible in my approach to the students particular requirements and therefore their success.

I also work as a consultant training unqualified practitioners to obtain Qualified Teaching Status. This involves supporting the trainee on-line as well as meeting and observing their lessons once a term.

Tutoring Experience

Having taught science for over 15 years I have extensive experience in teaching the British National Curriculum at all Key Stages. My experience ranges from KS3 through to KS5. I have taught GCSE Combined Science, Applied Science as well as Triple Science (Biology and Physics). I led the A Level Physics team before becoming Head of Biology and finally Head of Faculty.

Tutoring Approach

With over ten years of tutoring my sessions are focused at building up confidence primary around exam techniques. The correct use of terminology, the ability to apply their knowledge plus reading the question properly often leads to students to feel at a loss and lose their confidence. My extensive experience enables me to quickly take on board what areas the tutee requires to focus on and we will keep on this until they have grasped it. I set homework tasks which we go through in the next session. This forces the students to think for themselves and is an essential part of my approach.

So long as the tutee works hard in their own time using the advice they have been given they will gain in confidence and this will lead to improved grades.
