Prior my role as research technician in Neuro-Immune Pain at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), I completed a BSc in Applied Medical Medical Sciences at University College London (UCL) in 2015-2018, interned at a Forensic Laboratory in Hong Kong and completed a MRes in Forensic Science in 2019-2021. I then completed a MRes in Translational Neuroscience at UCL in 2021-2023.

Tutoring Experience

1. Freelance Biomedical Science, Neuroscience | Chinese, Piano Tutor Tutorful UK 2019 - Present
   • Troubleshooted learning challenges into actionable steps to facilitate rapid attainment of the craft and the language by my students, evident by the positive (including Tutor recommendations) 4.5/5 and (client only) 5/5 review scores
   • Developed communication and mentoring skills by tailoring my pace and teaching style to best suit the need of adult learners, based on their learning styles, preferences and prior skill level

2. Prep School Tutor/House Prefect Harrow International School Hong Kong 2014-2015
   • Assisted Housemaster to look after prep school kids of his house weekly and provided general pastoral care and helped out Y5- Y8 children with homework in science and maths
   • 5/20 demonstrated improvements in a major grade, such as from C to B+ or B- to A, 15 demonstrated improvements in subgrades, i.e. from A- to A+, B- to B+
   • Awarded leadership prize in my final year (y13) for my contributions as Prep School House Prefect

In Biomedical Science/Neuroscience:
We will work on why and what your're struggling with your course/subject/project. First session will be a detailed breakdown of areas requiring tutoring and laying out a plan to improve our chances of attaining level of improvements we wish to attain, within the deadlines of your coursework/exams.

In Jazz and Cantonese/Mandarin:

My pedagology on jazz piano is taught to me by Shan Verma, a former student of Bebop legend Barry Harris. Barry and Shan's unique and insightful approach to teaching emphasises on how different aspects of jazz theory connect to each other. Learning how to play jazz piano in such manner, simplifies the complexity of jazz theory and allows the learner to concentrate what matters most: the creative process of playing. I help students gain proficiency with the instrument in a systematic approach: Starting from posture, touch, dexterity and then progressing to finger techniques; alongside with jazz musicianship, merging the "science" of jazz: theory, voicing, chord-scale relationships, with the "art" of improvisation: building interesting solo phrases, different stylistic approaches to consider when jamming to your favourite tunes, listening and responding to other instruments in live playing.

Likewise, I breakdown Cantonese/Mandarin to English Speakers in a fun, conversational and useful manner, starting with basic syntaxes, an introduction to the picto-grahic nature the Chinese language and how my approach helps bridges you, the learner's fluencies by addressing the differences arising between pictographic-dominant (such as Chinese) and phonetic/phonetic-dominant (such as English/Other European languages).
