Helen Clare

I am an English national, graduate of biology and geography. I worked at York College in the Learning Support department for around 17 years, during which time I qualified as a counsellor and completed several specialist courses such as in dyslexia awareness.

I also have a TESOL certificate and have worked with students from various cultures. I recently tutored English at Queen Ethelburga's independent school.

Tutoring Experience

I have been a successful private tutor since 1997. I offer English and maths from primary level up to GCSE. I also offer biology and geography up to A level. I have experience of working with students who are dyslexic or have other learning difficulties and I also have a specialism in ESOL.
Most has been online since 2020, but face to face also available.

Tutoring Approach

My tuition is student led, aiming to closely follow student needs and work at their pace. I have a good rapport both with students and parents. I am reliable, punctual and professional.

I am experienced in tutoring via Skype and FaceTime. Lessons can start after an initial discussion regarding the student needs, via email or telephone. I can prepare resources in advance and send to the student electronically before the lesson. If the use of Google docs is possible, it enables the tutor to see the student's work as they type, but this is not a requirement, if the student does not wish to use a keyboard and prefers to write, using a webcam is fine. The student may also email work in advance of the lesson for feedback.
