I hold an MA in English Language and Literature from Oxford University and I am a qualified CELTA teacher. Previously a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales, I worked in the City for 8 years as well as advising the Cabinet Office as an independent qualified lawyer.
I teach English language and literature at GCSE and A-Level, in particular providing additional tuition and exam revision lessons. For younger students, I support students at KS2 and KS3 as well as preparing students for the English part of the 11+ and Common Entrance/ pre-tests.
Younger students
I have extensive experience preparing students for exams from the 11+, Common Entrance and Pre-Tests. All of my students have got into top schools in London - both private and state including Westminster, City, Francis Holland, St Paul's, Henrietta Barnett and Latimer. I have also prepared students for entrance exams to some of the UK's top boarding schools, with my students getting into a variety of schools including Sevenoaks, Tonbridge, Walthamstow Hall, Millfield and Dulwich College.
Older students
I provide additional lessons for those with a wide variety of needs. I have given lessons to gifted students to stretch them to reach their full potential - particularly those with confidence issues. I have helped two students both predicted a 3, desperate for the all-important 4, get a 5 and 7. For some, I have provided weekly lessons from Year 9 through to Year 11, (and in two cases, I have provided tutoring through their A-Levels as well). In contrast, I have seen some students for a few four-hour sessions of intensive revision before exams.
However, I also regularly provide gifted children with additional lessons. As well as preparing students in the run up to A-Levels, I have assisted them with their personal (“UCAS”) statement for applications to UK universities and with the preparation for the ELAT (for Cambridge University) and US SATs.
I also help with preparation for interviews at top universities, with some of my former students going to Oxford, Cambridge, UCL and Harvard to date.
Overseas Students
I provide online tuition for overseas students applying to UK schools, who want to prepare for entrance exams or to improve their English generally. I also coach students for interviews at UK boarding schools.
English as a Foreign/ Second Language:
I first taught EFL in 2002, while still at university and I am now CELTA qualified. I have taught EFL to children as young as 6 as well as adults, and to students with a wide variety of mother tongues (Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, French, German, Portuguese, Arabic).
Adults
I now teach a number of businessmen and lawyers who wish to improve their business and/or legal English (due to her previous experience working in the City as a lawyer). These lessons are both private as well as those provided by employers.
I provide a free initial session with each student which will include a discussion about what the student is looking to achieve, a discussion about how each student learns best and an assessment of his/her strengths and weaknesses. This enables me to tailor my approach to each individual student's needs.
I provide all texts and materials required at no additional cost.
Please note: Sessions missed with less than 24 hours notice will still be chargeable. Regular slots must be at least once a week to avoid parts of my timetable being left empty. During holidays, slots may only be held for up to three weeks.
