PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE IN ONLINE TUTORING
I am an open, hard-working tutor, enthusiastic about science and students engaging with STEM subjects. I enjoy developing ideas from basic principles and helping someone really get to grips with a subject, to be able to apply knowledge to a wide range of problems.
I have recently completed my PhD in an ‘Alloy Testing’ program for aerospace engines, funded by Rolls-Royce plc.. This was the testing of a new alloy for use in future commercial gas turbine engines. Throughout this I was based at Imperial College London. This PhD in material development consisted of a blend of the application of physics, maths and chemistry concepts.
I have a wide range of hobbies, including reading, running, swimming and horse-riding. I enjoy exploring new cultures and challenging myself.
Over the past two years I have tutored both male and female tutees through maths GCSE and A Level qualifications.
Throughout the four years of my PhD I have given lectures to undergraduate students, and helped them through problems in topics mainly within maths and physics. I also graded end of year exams in these topics. From this I have learnt how markers grade work and how to maximise this.
Over the course of my undergraduate and postgraduate studies I worked with Exscitec in delivering STEM education to range of age and background students. These classes were varied between practical and applied work.
Having taught a large number of students from a range of backgrounds I have learnt that each person is different. This has given me adaptability in my teaching style, and the ability to change approach quickly. I have often found making a concept relatable but also incorporating applicable jargon in the teaching process is the most memorable and easiest to understand. The most important overall outcome is the student being able to understand and apply knowledge.
