I am an experienced A Level Business teacher and examiner.
I have taught A Level Business for 13 years in high performing Sixth Form Colleges and in a State Grammar School. I have consistently helped my teaching groups achieve results in the top 25% nationally for added value, showing how I help each of my students reach their full potential. Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked in commercial roles in the FMCG and IT sectors. I have a BSc in Business Management, PGCE in Business Education, an Accounting Technicians qualification and an MA in Education. As you can see, I love learning and hope to impart this love of learning onto my students. I especially enjoy relating business topics being studied to real life business stories as it makes lessons much more interesting and can help gain you context marks in exams! I pride myself on helping my student's achieve their full potential.

Tutoring Experience

I have held various teaching positions - as a classroom teacher, as a HOD and as a Careers Leader for a State Grammar school. I have taught in both Sixth Form Colleges and schools so have experience of working with students of varying ages. I have always run intervention sessions with my students on an individual or group basis so am accustomed to tailoring sessions to ensuring that students make rapid progress in terms of their attainment. I initially made the move into private tutoring after being asked by a friend to tutor their child. I really enjoyed how much progress we were able to make in such a short space of time and so have taken on more tutees and am really enjoying the work that I do and the progress that we have been able to make. Last year the students that I worked with were able to improve their GCSE grades by an average of 2 points and A Level grades by 2 grades. The student that made the best progress went from a grade E to a grade B at A Level. I have examined for both AQA (7 years) and Eduqas (1 year) and have taught both of these specifications so I am able to keep a close focus on developing the skills needed to achieve high grades in the final exams.

Tutoring Approach

I work with the young person to identify areas that we can hone in on and make quick and tangible improvements in their performance. I strongly believe that if I can link the topics being studied to real life business news stories then it makes the session and the topic more relatable and really embeds the learning. Exam technique and the development of the skills needed to score high marks in the exam are the focus on the work that we will do. I believe that exam technique and refining this, can see rapid progress being made in a short period of time.

Student FA - 'Claire worked with me between September and May of Year 13 and as a result, I improved my grade from a Year 12 mock grade of an E to a grade B. I looked forward to our sessions as she was able to go through the theory and we would then look at exam questions and how to approach them to gain the highest marks. As a result of my achieving my B grade I was able to secure my place at University to study Law'.
