I've always enjoyed Maths as a subject and took it to A level, and a Level 3 OCR qualification (Grade A).
I have space for two or threeTutees each academic year, local to Eastbourne area, I limit the number of students due to my other commitments, and to retain a close focus on those learners.
GCSE Maths can be a challenge to some pupils, but practice does pay off, and I enjoy helping students make progress in confidence, and with techniques.
I joined First Tutors in early 2017, but have had previous referrals through word of mouth. Those students gave good feedback and attained good results.
I am reliable, approachable and am happy to come to you for lessons.
Over the last 5 years I have tutored pupils in the age range of 10 to 16. Both for higher level and foundation level papers.
Two of these pupils put in for their exam early as external students and obtained top grades. I am familiar with the process to enter to sit the exam at Hastings or Eastbourne colleges and can assist with this if required.
I have a bank of past papers for the main boards and both tiers, and am happy to bring past papers along to lessons and to leave for homework.
An approach that works well is to do a past paper every week, with extra focus on the topics that come up again and again. I have knowledge of exam boards favourite questions, and how to answer them to obtain full marks. Pupils tell me that what we revised did come up in their final exam.
I have a friendly approach and take the time to listen and explain. I tailor lessons to the ability of the student.
Some pupils are aiming to get the highest grades (7-9 / previously A) and for this it requires practice of the specialised techniques, particularly in algebra, surds and geometry.
The new format Higher level papers contain more detailed questions than before. For pupils who just 'need a pass' then the Foundation Paper may be the best choice.
Previously the Foundation paper was limited in grade, but the new structure has added in some topics to make it slightly harder but gives scope to get up to a grade 5.
I do my very best to work with the learner to achieve their goals.
