Hello, thank you for considering me as a tutor. My name is Chris and I have several years experience of teaching KS1 locally in south London. In addition I spent 3 years teaching English in both Thailand and China. Across this decade spent in education I have built up a wealth of strategies for supporting a range of abilities and needs. I am motivated by building a relationship with the children in my care that enables them to find an interest in their learning and an awareness of the progress they are making. I have a young son myself and it has been revealing to see the challenges of parenthood and the importance for the child to have multiple trusted adults in their life that bring different voices, ideas and interests.
In my spare time I love to travel and I appreciate different cultures and cuisines. I enjoy playing with my little boy. We read a lot of stories together and can often be found riding our bikes around the parks and woodland of Greater London.
I attained my PGCE from Roehampton University and spent several years teaching at an outstanding school in Surrey. During this time it became part of a forward thinking, tech savvy Trust and so I benefitted from some fantastic career development sessions during this period. A benefit of becoming a Trust was working alongside some wonderful teachers and we were able to share ideas, resources and experience which certainly enhanced my skills as a teacher.
I am also fortunate to have experience working for International schools across Asia and so I have a well-rounded view of education. I specialise in teaching key stage 1 children and have great experience of helping children both successfully transition from Reception to Year 1 and achieve their best at the SATS tests. In Asia I had a stint teaching doctors and nurses English at the local hospital which was incredibly rewarding.
I always aim to help my students achieve the targets we both agree on in a calm environment as this will be most conducive to learning. I have a positive and supportive manner of teaching. I like my students to understand that mistakes are actually helpful as they are proof that you are trying and part of the learning process. My sessions will include brain breaks to ensure optimal focus when teaching is taking place. As each student is unique I will adapt my sessions to fit that child's needs and interests.
