Hi, my name is Chris and I have been an NHS doctor for two years, qualifying from Newcastle University in 2022 (awarded MBBS with Merit; ranked 2 out of 353 students in cohort for final examinations).
I have a keen interest in education and mentoring, reflected in my experience educating as a clinician.
I am able to provide tutoring and exam support for Biology at A-Level/GCSE, and Chemistry at GCSE level.
I have a passion for medical education and mentoring.
At medical school, I organised and operated large group clinical skills & reasoning sessions for peers to learn from each other.
I am involved in educating medical students in the clinical environment.
I have previously mentored aspirant medical students, including through the Social Mobility Foundation’s Aspiring Professionals Programme.
I firmly believe that true, meaningful learning can only begin once the learner has been supported to find what works best for them.
I support learners in setting their own measurable targets, reviewing and reflecting on progress throughout the tutoring journey.
This is supported by formative assessment; when working towards GCSE/A-Level qualifications this is best achieved through regular practice of real past exam paper questions.
It is important to work directly to the specification and curriculum of the student’s examination board, in order to tutor the relevant content at the appropriate breadth and depth.
I am generally opposed to didactic-style teaching and prefer a “flipped-classroom” approach where possible: this style enables learners to get the most out of their tuition time, because they are able to come to the session and learn how to apply knowledge with support and guidance.
