I am a 27 year old research assistant at Queen's University Belfast currently finishing my PhD thesis. Thus far I hold significant experience in synthetic organic chemistry and characterisation of compounds. I have significant experience in the field of green chemistry, biomass valorisation, wastewater treatment and renewables.
I enjoy travelling and reading, a particular interest of mine is irish history and the politics associated with it.
Currently my PhD at the moment is the synthesis and catalytic breakdown of lignin model compounds, this falls under the umbrella of Green Chemistry and follows on from my Green based masters project which was also a synthetic organic based project.
Before now I have demonstrated for chemistry labs in numerous years and disciplines to include green chemistry and also organic chemistry.
As well as this I also have tutored first year undergraduate chemistry and medicinal chemistry students who then went on to score very highly indeed in their exams (all high firsts). Having also tutored chemistry at AS and A2 level for numerous students I am highly capable of being able to convey ideas and concepts in chemistry to those who require such knowledge for exams.
The first thing I feel necessary is to find the areas of the course where the student doesn't feel confident and then work on these areas so the student would feel wholly confident to go to the exam and answer a paper on the topics we discussed and they were tutored on.
I don't believe in a harsh routine of learning which results in the student becoming overwhelmed, instead I work on the strengths of the student and pinpoint what needs to be improved and set about doing so.
