I studied English at University, achieving a 1st Class Honours. My passion for English began in secondary school as a result of my teacher's passion and interest in the subject, and this inspired me to study it further. As I studied the SQA exams myself I am aware of the difficulties that can arise. I enjoy using my knowledge and experience to lessen the burden for students, encouraging them along the way and supporting them towards their exams.
I have been tutoring for over 4 years and I have worked with over 45 students. Therefore, I have picked up many different skills along the way. I studied English at National 5, Higher, and Advanced Higher English at secondary school, in which I received consistent As, so I am very familiar with the course structure.
All of my lessons take place online, using a combination of Zoom and Google Classroom. I send out a welcome pack to all new students to give you a better idea of what this looks like in practice.
Using the Google Classroom means that all of our work is easily accessible and saved to a shared drive. I can post content and materials for you to access at any time, aiding with revision and studying no matter where you are. I use Google Docs to complete lesson work, which allows us both to edit documents at the same time, making our lessons more collaborative! This allows me to give real-time feedback, rather than relaying back and forth. Students can also upload work for feedback which I happily provide, whether it is work we have completed together, for homework, or work completed in school.
I do not use the same approach with every student, as each individual has different learning needs and abilities. I tailor my lessons to every one of my students to ensure they are receiving the most effective lessons for them. I use a combination of quizzes, presentation-style lessons with note-taking, practice questions and past papers, and visual aids for key elements of the course.
I also regularly set homework to maintain engagement between lessons and consolidate learning. Every piece of homework receives feedback to pinpoint any areas of improvement that need to be addressed.#/k#
